Bright + Icon

The Brandery
3 min readNov 27, 2020

Bright came to The Brandery as Cribcut, an in-person corporate amenities (hair, nails, etc.) provider. They were having hockey stick growth and were well-positioned to rapidly expand in 2020. There was just one problem: COVID-19.

What happens when a global pandemic shuts down every customer you serve? The Cribcut team looked to The Brandery to help with just that. Within one month, Cribcut became Bright and launched its virtual well-being services. But just because you build it, doesn’t mean they’ll come. Bright needed an agency partner to help reposition its marketing strategy and customer acquisition in this new environment.

Just before matching our agency partners and startups, I saw a blog post from Icon that said:

“We can’t simply wait for things to return to normal; that normal no longer exists. Instead, brands must remap their customer journey to catch up to what consumers want and what they’re doing, and identify a plan to support these individuals — both before and after the sale.”

We knew Icon needed to be matched with Bright at that moment, and we were right. Icon hit the ground running with Bright’s team to help them go from $0 in revenue to $10K MRR and beyond in 12 short weeks.

Adopt & Adjust (as told by Icon)

Our team loves working with The Brandery and their start-ups. Being a local agency, we feel that our continued support of other local organizations such as The Brandery is pivotal to the growth of our city and region.

We chose Bright because of the synergy between their needs and our expertise. Our team also felt that our personalities and goals for the program we aligned. Our collaboration allowed us to get to a great output, of numerous deliverables including Personas, Inbound/outbound strategy, Social Strategy, Content Calendar and Launch Content.

Pivotal Support (as told by Bright CEO David Howe)

Two things stand out to me in working with ICON through the Brandery. First, their flexibility in working with our quickly evolving needs — they helped us remain agile coming out of a rebrand and launching a new product, and then experimenting with pricing and positioning. Second, they took care to ensure that we were left with ongoing tools in addition to the short-term support we asked of them. To me these are two things any startup should look for in an agency.
